Brisbane

It’s been a while since we have spent time with the Allens as we had missed them last Christmas as we had already left, and we did not go skiing this year due to travelling.  So it was nice to stop in for a couple of days of fine food, “a couple of beers”, some guitar-work (don’t laugh, I can play this came out a few times) and great company.

We stopped off for lunch at Captain Logan’s campground on Wivenhoe Dam on the way to Brisbane.  At 2.5 times the size of Sydney Harbour (there’s that comparison again!), it is Brisbane source of water.  Nice spot, but with only four small, rough sites for camper-trailers, I’d imagine it is very busy on weekends.  We thought Lumley Hill was better suited to camper trailers like ours.

But this was not our destination.  We checked into Chateau Allen mid afternoon, shortly thereafter a beer appeared in my hand (no doubt it was beer-o-clock somewhere in the world) and we set about catching up as the kids took no time to reacquaint.  There is no doubt that the Allens fit into Bris-Vegas.

The dad’s were coaxed into playing hand-ball against the kids.  Gotta say, I thought we taught them a thing or two.  Even though the rules seemed to have changed since I was at school (and seemed to be implemented whenever I won something).  What is this about not being able to lose first shot????  No wonder our cricket/union/soccer/league/olympic/etc teams are all doing so poorly.  I know, I know, they try their best, they don’t get paid enough, etc.

We all spent Saturday in Southbank visiting the GOMA (Gallery of Modern Art).  I was quite impressed by some of the exhibits…

I must say that Craig did a great job with the cooking – BBQ Salmon on Friday night; pizza on Saturday night.  There was also banana cake, bacon and egg breakfasts and even “Frog in Ponds” for the kids!  Thanks for the hospitality.  It was great to catch up…
